Hi, I’m Andy Walsh, founder of Guitar Genie. I’m a guitarist and live performer based in Eccles, and I started Guitar Genie to give local players a clearer, more approachable way to look after their instruments.
Every instrument has a story.
A guitar can be a working instrument, a first serious purchase, a long-saved-for dream guitar or something with genuine sentimental value. Whatever brings it through the door, it deserves to be treated carefully and with respect.
That means listening to the player as well as inspecting the instrument. What feels right to one guitarist may not suit another, so the aim isn’t simply to apply the same measurements to every guitar. It’s to understand what isn’t working, explain the available options and help the instrument feel right in your hands again.
From first guitars to touring instruments.
Through Guitar Genie, I work on electric guitars, acoustic guitars and basses for players across Salford, Trafford, Greater Manchester and the wider North West.
Working with gigging musicians reinforces the importance of reliability, consistency and returning an instrument ready for the rehearsal room, studio or stage.
Clear from the beginning.
Before starting Guitar Genie, my professional background was in client service and project management. Although that may seem removed from guitar maintenance, it has shaped the way the business operates.
You should know what is happening to your instrument, what the likely cost will be and when you can expect it back.

Describe the recommended work clearly and without unnecessary jargon.

Keep the customer informed until the instrument is ready to collect.
Knowing when a job needs a specialist.
The work I undertake is practical and player-focused. The goal is to solve the problem, improve the way the instrument feels and avoid replacing parts or carrying out extra work unnecessarily.
I don’t pretend that every job belongs on the same workbench. Cosmetic restoration, major structural repairs and specialist luthiery may require a different set of skills.
A trusted place to begin.
Guitar Genie began as a local service for players who wanted dependable setups, maintenance and minor repairs without feeling uncertain about what their instrument needed.
The longer-term purpose is broader: to help musicians find the right person for each instrument and each job, while supporting the independent guitar technicians, repairers and luthiers who keep this craft alive.
Some instruments need a straightforward setup. Others need an experienced electronics specialist, amplifier technician or luthier. Players deserve a trusted place to begin, even when the eventual answer lies with someone else.
